THE REHAT (CODE OF CONDUCT) OF A SIKHNI (SIKH WOMAN) 


Based on Rehatnama Bhai Chaupa Singh Ji who were a childhood friend of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, present during the Amrit Sanchaar 1699, and were a Hazoori Sikh of Guru Sahib

1. A Guru' Sikhni should not shower naked, ie wear a kachera all the time.
2. A Guru' Sikhni should only cook and serve food with proper hygiene, maintain general cleanliness, have taken a shower, clean clothes and tidy hair.
3. A Guru's Sikhni should not curse or swear at a man.
4. A Guru' Sikhni should always cover her head until her forehead when sitting in Sadhsangat.
5. When learning the path of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, she should renounce other worldly affairs, such as singing, dancing, speaking vulgar words. 
6. A Guru's Sikhni must keep her Dharam strong.
7. Do not sit with women who have bad intentions, who slander and gossip.
8. A Guru' Sikhni should keep a pure Dharam and be calm. 
9. Apart from her husband, all other men should be treated as fathers, brothers and sons. 
10. A Guru's Sikhni should give the teachings of Sikhi to her husband.
11. If a man becomes a disciple of a Sikh woman, her teachings will be effective for the disciple. 
12. A Guru's Sikhni, apart from feeding her family, should feed needy and poor people.
13. A Guru' Sikhni should memorise Gurbani and go to the Gurdwara twice a day to 'Metha Tekh' (bow her head/pay respect)
14. A Guru' Sikhni should offer blankets and other clothing to the Guru.
15. A Guru's Sikhni should offer bread and a handful of flour to the Gurdwara from her kitchen. it is the bachan of the Guru. 
16. A Guru's Sikhni should always remain alert at all times. 
17. She should keep general cleanliness of herself, especially before cooking in the kitchen. 
18. When kneading dough and cooking, she should not speak as some spit of saliva may enter the food.
19. A Guru's Sikhni, if while cooking she digs her nose or scratches her body, she has to wash her hands before resuming cooking. It is best to not have children in the kitchen as her concentration should be fully on the cooking. 
20. A Guru's Sikhni should not attend funerals where women beat their chest and thighs and cry out loud. Do not take food from those people as well. 
21. If she has cooked delicious food at home, offer some to the Gurdwara. 
22. Do not sing songs that have curse words or vulgar words. Sing those geets and Ghoriyaan (folklore songs) that are meaningful. There is Ghoriyaan di Bani in Guru Granth Sahib Ji. 
23. A Guru's Sikhni should always take her complete bath or Panj Ishnaan (washing up of face, both arms and both legs) and recite Gurmantar. Do not bow to graves and tombs. Only accept what is given by the Guru. Do not go anywhere apart from the Guru, Saints and Sangat. 
24. Keep a dharam of Patibarta (a dutiful and faithful wife) just as written in Guru Granth Sahib Ji. 
25. Do not waste this life as the birth as a human is very priceless. 

This are the teachings to the Sikhni of Guru Sahib.

    1. I would be choosing certain sakhiaan in which Guru Sahib gives us giaan in this life.
